On April 12, the 9th Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award Original Illustration Exhibition opened at Duoyunxuan Art Center, kicking off a new round of exhibition tours in 2024.
Jiang Bo (Cat King), the owner of the Cat in the Shell Studio, was selected for the "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award Original Illustration Exhibition" with his picture book "Courage Balloon" and started this tour together!

The owner of the Cat in the Shell Studio – Jiang Bo (Cat King), was selected for the "Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award Original Illustration Exhibition" with his picture book "Courage Balloon" and started this tour together!
About "Balloon of Courage"
In this hand-painted work, I tried to express a story about courage and growth. The work features a little girl and her loyal cat companion, and shows how courage (balloon) grows from a small heart to a big one by meeting a magical rainbow.
The inspiration for this work comes from the relationship between courage and growth in our lives. The little girl and the cat symbolize innocence, warmth and friendship, and also represent the need to face various challenges in growth. The balloon symbolizes courage, which is elegant and full of power, just like the courage in our hearts, which can help us gradually break free from constraints and bravely face the difficulties in life.
I drew a red balloon to make it the visual focus of the picture, representing the growth process of courage. In the process of painting, I changed the tone of the story from the gray rainy day to the clear and bright blue sky, giving the picture story a sense of rhythm. Slowly showing a hopeful atmosphere. At the same time, by depicting the background with simple lines, highlighting the emotional interaction between the protagonist and the balloon. Through this work, I hope that the audience can feel the power of courage and encourage everyone to continue to embrace courage in the process of growth and meet the rainbows and challenges in life.
The professional group of this exhibition exhibited more than 280 professional group works selected by expert judges, from more than 30 countries including China, Italy, Britain, Portugal, Germany, Bulgaria, Argentina, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Singapore, etc. The vivid and meaningful works captured and recorded the inadvertent encounters in the long years, history and modernity, macro and micro, past and future. The groups of illustrations carefully created by more than 50 illustrators presented different styles of understanding and interpretation, and also brought everyone the global beautiful visual art enjoyment and diverse artistic landscapes and social thinking.
【About this tour】
This illustration exhibition takes "Encounter" as its annual theme, inviting illustrators from all over the world to depict the most beautiful encounters in their minds. The exhibition presents 104 groups of nearly 350 original works in the form of a series of works, many of which are exhibited publicly for the first time.
In addition, the exhibition also extends the illustration works and sets up multiple illustration-themed photo-taking spots. Visitors can "walk into" these illustrations, use cameras to record beautiful memories, and feel the beauty of time.
In the derivatives area, practical and beautiful cultural and creative products bring illustrations into daily life, decorating life with art. At the exhibition site, in addition to appreciating the colorful illustrations, the audience can also enjoy the winning works of the Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award.
This year, following the exhibition at Dooyunxuan Art Center, the illustration exhibition will also tour university art galleries and public cultural venues in the Yangtze River Delta to attract more friends who love reading and illustrations to join.
The artistic vitality displayed by the illustration exhibition will continue to expand the brand influence and radiation of the Chen Bochui International Children's Literature Award, cultivate future illustrators through reading and painting, and add a childlike artistic temperament to the city.
